Sk8r Boy

We took Sacha ice skating for this first time on New Year’s Eve day.  My blog entries are all chronologically messed up because I was with out my computer for a week.   Sacha was so excited to go.  He really wants to play hockey.  He’s still a bit to young to be thinking about hockey and hopefully he will change his mind to a cheaper sport that you don’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to practise, but we did think that it would be a good time to take him skating.  He was excited as we walked into the building, as we rented his skates and put them on.  He was excited to wear his helmet and gloves.   He was excited the first second he stepped onto the ice, then he freaked out.

On his first attempt he lasted about a minute on the ice, flailing and clinging to the skate bar.  He did enjoy walking around with his skates on (off the ice).  He also, even though he was terrified of the ice was insisting that he didn’t want to skate, he wanted to play hockey.   We made him try to go back on the ice twice more.  Once with the bar again and once Andrew just held his and as Sacha held onto the side of the rink.  With out the bar to cling to and have no weight actually on his skates, Sacha did a bit better and was definitely less terrified.  And when he got off the ice the third time he said it was fun. So we know for next time – no bar.

Priceless picture! Like the one of my daughter on Santa's knee (first Christmas home 2011).
