First Steps!

We were so sure that Alice would be an early walker. That was before she learned how to crawl though. Before Alice learned how to crawl, she used to hate sitting down. She would fight you by straight legging when you tried to put her in a carseat or to sit on the floor or where ever. So we figured that she would go straight from there to walking. Well. Once she learned how to crawl, she was off. Then, it was as if she didn't want to slow down to learn how to walk, it was just quicker to crawl.

I've been trying to sit on the floor, stand her up and try to get her to take a few steps towards me. In fact, over Christmas, this was the favourite sport of most of the family. Trying to bribe her with kisses, cake and even iPhone access. None of these things worked, even though she was so close.

But last night, she took her first steps. The first time it was two steps and then Sacha, Andrew and I all started clapping and getting excited. She LOVED this. So she was on a role after that. She would take two steps and then fall like a board into my arms, clapping herself. It was kind of like those trust exercises, except she was falling forward. She got up to 3 steps before falling, but the whole time she was really looking for the pay off (the clapping). So as she gets more stable, we might have to hold off on our excitement bit by bit so that she has to take more steps before the clapping.
