Birthday Party

IMG_3214

Alice’s first birthday party was fun but pretty low-key.  We had Margot, Kai and Steph over to Mum’s house for dinner and cake.  I made pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw.

Alice had skipped her afternoon nap and dinner was a little late because we were waiting for people to get off work.  So we rushed through the main meal so that she could blow out her candles.  Elephant CakeOr more accurately, she could sit there while we sang and candles were blown out for her.  I decided to stick with Alice’s elephant theme for her cake and I am happy with how it turned out.  I was slightly worried that it wouldn’t live up to my hopes while I was in the middle of decorating.  It is frustrating having to stop and wait for the crumb coat layer of icing to harden up.

Alice loved cake.  She started off quite politely, just kind of scraping off the icing and tasting it.  By the end there was cake every where, all over her, and the floor. IMG_3223

Sacha had lots of fun too, because he got to unwrap all of Alice’s presents. Even if he wasn’t too excited about the dresses inside.  Devon dropped by as well but Alice had already gone to bed for the night which was unfortunate but necessary.IMG_3270
